Ludlow and Stokesay Castle
We enjoy a morning in Ludlow. This picturesque medieval market town is an architectural gem with many fine buildings, such as the Castle, which dates from 1085. In the afternoon, we visit nearby Stokesay Castle, one of the finest and best preserved fortified Medieval manor houses in England. Stokesay's magnificent open hearthed Great Hall, completed in 1291, displays a fine timber roof, shuttered gable windows and a precipitous staircase, its treads cut from whole tree trunks.
Shrewsbury and River Severn Cruise
We travel into Shrewsbury. This splendid medieval town has winding streets with unusual names such as Bear Steps, Wyle Cop and Grope Lane, full of half-timbered buildings. There are over 600 listed buildings, including the castle and abbey. We enjoy a boat trip on the Severn, aboard the Sabrina, travelling round the horseshoe loop in the river and viewing the attractive waterfront (tea and biscuits included).
Wenlock Edge and Bridgnorth
We enjoy a scenic drive through the Shropshire lanes along Wenlock Edge. We continue to Bridgnorth for a lunch break. There’s time to ride on England's Oldest and Steepest Inland Electric Funicular Railway!
