Sunday: We depart Cobham Services in the early morning to catch ferry crossing over to Calais. We continue through France to the Orleans area for our overnight stop.
Monday: We make our way through France, arriving in Calella early evening.
Tuesday: Barcelona and Vermut
Guided walking tour (3 hours) of vibrant Barcelona: the Barrio Gotico (Gothic Quarter) with its labyrinthine streets, where ancient Roman ruins blend seamlessly with medieval architecture. On to the bustling promenade of La Rambla, a lively boulevard brimming with street performers, flower stalls and local vendors. Visit to the iconic Boqueria Market, where a kaleidoscope of colours and aromas tantalize the senses. We stop at a local bar to taste the true, homemade “Vermut Casero” with a typical “bomba” snack.
Wednesday: Costa Brava and Paella
Drive along the breathtaking cliffs, golden sandy beaches of the Costa Brava. First stop in Begur, the city of watchtowers, where the mountains plunge into the Mediterranean and give the town centre a special charm, with its ruins of a simple knight’s castle from the 15th century. The journey continues to Pals, the museum town which, thanks to its Gothic-medieval old town, is one of the most picturesque towns in the Costa Brava. Lunch break with a typical lunch with Paella and Sangria. Back to Calella de Palafrugell, a former fishing village with small coves that has preserved its original charm.
Thursday: Penedes and Cava
Visit to one of the most fascinating monasteries in the world: Montserrat. This monastery was built in a mountain overlooking the valley of the Llobegrat River, which flows into the Mediterranean. Rack railway down to the valley for a memorable view. Afternoon visit to Penedès, one of the most important wine regions in Spain. Here the famous Cava or Spanish champagne is produced. Stop for a tasting along with typical delicatessen products from the region.
Friday: At leisure in Calella
Saturday: We retrace our steps through France and overnight in the Orleans area.
Sunday: We leave our overnight hotel, making convenient breaks, we arrive back at Cobham Services in the evening, with lots of fond memories of this fantastic adventure.
