Shugborough and Lichfield
We start the day with a drive south to the City of Lichfield. Here there is much to see and do, particularly the stunning Lichfield Cathedral, set in an attractive and serene close. Over 800 years old, the building is the third on the site and is well worth a visit. This afternoon we continue to the stunning Shugborough Estate, former home of the late Lord Patrick Lichfield. Set on the banks of the River Sow, the magnificent 17th century mansion house offers much to see.
Train and Tram Day
This morning, we head north to Duffield. Here we join the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for a 30 minute ride through the Derbyshire countryside to Wirksworth. Rejoining the coach we head for Matlock where we take a break for lunch and have chance to look around. This afternoon we visit the superb Crich Tramway Village. The authentic village scene transports you back in time with cobbled streets and the gentle rumble of passing trams. The Tramway Village hosts many period features such as shops, an ice cream parlour, tea rooms and more.
Biddulph Grange and Buxton
Our first visit today takes us to the National Trust owned Biddulph Grange Garden. This is one of Britain’s most unusual gardens with upside down trees, formal Italian Garden, Egyptian Court and tranquil Chinese garden. A delightful experience, well worth a visit. Later we journey to Buxton, with its pedestrianised main street, delightful gardens and magnificent historic buildings.
