Outside, the castle is surrounded by a breath-taking 1,200-acre estate and 10 award-winning gardens. It is also the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds. This afternoon, we visit the Spa town of Cheltenham. Walk down the Promenade which is considered one of the most beautiful in the country, with its tree lined avenue flanked by smart shops and cafés.
Hidcote Manor Garden and Stratford-upon-Avon
After breakfast, we head for Hidcote Manor Garden, an Arts and Crafts garden in the north Cotswolds. Explore the maze of narrow paved pathways and discover secret gardens, magnificent vistas and plants that burst with colour. Later this afternoon we travel to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. We have time to wander the streets and explore.
Painswick Rococo Garden and Gloucester
Today’s morning excursion is to Painswick Rococo Garden, the only surviving garden of the rococo period open to the public.
