Day 1. Journey to Valkenburg
We pick you up from your door and journey to Dover to catch our ferry to Calais. We continue our journey arriving early evening in Valkenburg.
Day 2. Maastricht Christmas Market
The market is located in Vrijthof square, the main square of the town surrounded by historic buildings, like the Basilica of Saint Servatius, and cozy cafe terraces. Stroll through a tunnel of lights and visit Saint Servatius as part of the festivities. Take time to visit Bookstore Dominicans, a multi-level independent bookstore inside a 13th century Dominican church!
Day 3. Monschau and Aachen Christmas Market
We visit the lovely German town of Monschau, the ‘Pearl of the Eifel Region', located on the banks of a small river, full of pretty half-timbered buildings and overlooked by the ruins of a stone watchtower and an old palace. We continue to Aachen. The squares and alleys around Aachen's town hall and cathedral are transformed into a festive Christmas Market. Enjoy visiting the many stalls whilst sipping a warming cup of Gluhwein!
Day 4. Valkenburg Christmas Market
The market is held above ground and below ground in caves! The Gemeentegrot Cave has seemingly endless stretches of corridors, making it one of the most extraordinary Christmas markets in Europe, selling countless Christmas gifts. The Velvet Cave runs in a labyrinth under the castle ruins of Valkenburg, with corridors that wind here and there. A truly excellent experience!
Day 5. Homeward Journey
Sadly, we wave goodbye to our hosts at the Walram Hotel. We retrace our steps back to Calais for our evening crossing back to Dover, arriving mid evening for our taxis home.
