Enjoy a relaxing morning to explore our base of Alnwick. This afternoon we travel to Wooler to visit Ad Gefrin, a new attraction that showcases life at an Anglo-Saxon Royal Court that was located in Wooler. The immersive museum features a great hall, original artefacts and tells the stories of the people who made up an Anglo-Saxon Royal Court. Following our visit to the museum we enjoy a guided tour and tasting in the Distillery where they use methods dating back to the Anglo-Saxon times to recreate a heritage whisky of this area.
Today we make our way to Seahouses where we have free time to explore at leisure. Browse the variety of stores featuring the National Trust gift store, a range of local food delis and make sure to have a look in Farne Gift Store, where you can see a wide range of interesting and unique products. At midday, we make our way to the harbour to board a 2-hour cruise to the Farne Islands. Watch out for a variety of wildlife including puffins and grey seals, along with a close-up view of the Grace Darling Lighthouse from the water.
Today’s excursion takes us across the causeway to Holy Island and the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle – visible in the distance from Bamburgh. Later, we visit Bamburgh for free time. Maybe visit the majestic castle on the beach or the Grace Darling Museum. NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion.
Set in the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick, the White Swan is a charming, 300-year-old coaching inn that blends its unique heritage with superb accommodation. The hotel is probably best known for its Olympic Dining Suite which features the magnificent panelling, mirrors and stained-glass windows from the Titanic’s sister ship. No lift.
