Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors
We head north following the coast road to Whitby, the famous fishing port which was once the home of Captain James Cook. High above the harbour stands the 7th century Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. We have time to wander around the narrow streets and busy harbourside before leaving for a scenic ride across the moors to Pickering, a bustling and vibrant market town with independent shops.
Beverley and Burton Constable Hall
We visit Beverley on market day and enjoy time to explore the town and maybe visit the magnificent Minster. Later we travel to Burton Constable Hall. This fascinating Elizabethan gem nestles in over 300 acres of natural parkland and offers visitors unrivalled access to 30 rooms of faded splendour that are filled with fine furniture, paintings and sculpture. Discover the extraordinary 18th century ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ and uncover the fascinating characters from the Constable family whose home it has been for the past 700 years.
Medieval York
This morning, we leave for a day in the ancient and historic City of York. In York there are lots of things to see and do – The National Railway Museum, The Jorvik Centre, The Castle Museum, stroll around the City Walls, wander around the excellent shops, explore the many quaint little alleyways, and of course no visit to York is complete without seeing magnificent York Minster. Late afternoon we return to Scarborough.
