Saturday: We depart Cobham Services in the early morning and travel to Dover for our morning ferry, crossing over to Calais. We check into our overnight hotel (Novotel Amneville at Maizieres Les Metz) and have dinner (overnight bags recommended).
Sunday: We cross the border into Austria and make our way to St Anton.
Monday: We spend today at leisure in St Anton where there is plenty to see and do. We can take advantage of our St Anton Summer Card, which includes a return journey on the cable car, entrance to St Anton Museum and the complimentary use of local bus services.
Tuesday: Lake Constance - This morning we make our way to Bregenz, framed by impressive mountain chains and nestled beside Lake Constance. There is time to enjoy and explore the medieval centre of this delightful city and see the massive Baroque onion spire of St Martin’s Tower before we cruise on Lake Constance to the town of Lindau. Situated on an island and brimming with medieval and half-timbered buildings, this charming German town has plenty to admire. We enjoy some free time here before our return journey.
Wednesday: Silvretta High Alpine Pass - Today we enjoy a spectacular drive over one of the most beautiful Alpine passes: the Silvretta Pass, which twists and turns around 30 hairpin bends through a wonderland of Tyrolean scenery – making our journey a genuine highlight of our tour. Along the way, we are treated to views over the towering, 3,312-metre Piz Buin peak, the highest mountain in Vorarlberg.
Thursday: Chur & Arosabahn - We spend this morning at leisure in the Swiss city of Chur, which boasts a well-preserved old town. We have time to stroll the picturesque, traffic-free alleyways, see landmarks like the Bishop’s Court – home to the Episcopal Palace Museum and Cathedral of St Mary – and discover the shops and cafés. Next, we join the Chur-Arosa railway line, also called the Arosabahn. This lovely mountain railway takes us on a return journey from Chur to Arosa, climbing 1,000 metres in just 26 kilometres through unspoilt countryside, and negotiating tight curves, steep inclines and the famous Langwieser Viaduct across the River Plessur.
Friday: After breakfast, it’s time to wave farewell to St Anton and the team and begin our journey home. Our overnight hotel is Novotel Amneville at Maizieres Les Metz.
Saturday: We retrace our steps and catch the late afternoon ferry back to England, arriving at Cobham mid-evening, after our fantastic Austrian adventure..
