Shaftesbury is a small market town in Dorset with a fascinating history going back to Saxon times. The town is the home of Gold Hill (made famous by the “Hovis” advert) and has magnificent views over Thomas Hardy’s Blackmore Vale. Medieval Salisbury is the perfect fusion of ancient and modern. The city lies at the confluence of five rivers and the awe-inspiring sight of the Cathedral, rising up from the water-meadows, has been described as ‘Britain’s best view’.
