Doc Martin’s Port Isaac and Padstow
Today we are joined by a local guide and have a full day touring and seeing sites of the TV drama ‘Doc Martin.’ We visit Port Isaac in north Cornwall which plays the fictional village of Portwenn, as we walk from the coach drop off into the picturesque fishing village you will have a chance to see Doc’s house and surgery and many other things from the TV drama. (Please note that access to the main part of Port Isaac is up and down a steep hill). Later we visit the attractive port of Padstow.
Bodmin Jail and Boscastle
Designed by Sir John Call and built in 1779, Bodmin Jail was originally built for King George III and is an excellent example of the ingenuity and engineering prowess of Victorian architects. From the crimes to the courthouse and gallows to the grave, Bodmin Jail provides a unique opportunity to get up close to the Georgians and the Victorians, with arsenic poisoners to arsonists, murderers to mutinous hanging crowds. Later we visit attractive Boscastle.
St Mawes and Falmouth
We depart the hotel and drive to St. Mawes, a small fishing village nestled at the end of the Roseland Peninsula. As we turn off the main A road and onto the A3078, we descend down to St Mawes enjoying lovely views and also some slight tight squeezes! We have some free time here before we catch the St. Mawes Ferry across to Falmouth where we spend the rest of the afternoon. Once a fishing port, Falmouth is now an attractive resort and among the attractions is the excellent National Maritime Museum, which opened in 2003.
Fowey and Trelissick
We visit Fowey. Explore the picturesque winding streets with historic buildings and quaint shops. Later we visit Trelissick, a house and woodland garden with formal lawns, herbaceous borders, exotic planting, an orchard and views over the River Fal. Home to the Copeland family up until 2012, the original house dates back to the 1750s and is now open to the public. Visitors enjoy the coastal views from the south facing rooms overlooking the Carrick Roads, south towards Mylor and Falmouth, with refreshments available to purchase from the Kitchen Café.
