Carnforth Station, Lancaster and Morecambe
We travel to Carnforth Station, famous as the location for David Lean's 1945 wartime romantic film Brief Encounter, starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. We enjoy coffee and cake at the tea room. We continue to the historic town of Lancaster, full of picturesque old streets. The castle is worth a visit and is owned by HM the King, who is the Duke of Lancaster. In the afternoon, we return to Morecambe for time to look around this popular resort.
The Southern Lakes
We journey into the Lake District National Park. We board a steam train at Haverthwaite to the shores of Windermere. We pick up a boat and cruise the whole length of the lake to the lovely town of Ambleside, where we break for lunch. We return via the market town of Kendal, well known for its ‘Mint Cake’.
Exploring The Dales
We travel to the lovely town of Kirkby Lonsdale on market day. The through the attractive scenery of Garsdale to Hawes, where we break for lunch. We return via Ribbledale, making a photo stop at the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct.
