South Devon Steam and Sail
A splendid day out by steam train and boat. We travel to Paignton for a steam train ride on the Dart Valley Railway through beautiful scenery to Kingswear. Later we enjoy a leisurely cruise on the River Dart, passing Kingswear and Dartmouth Castles, the Royal Naval College and Greenway House, once owned by Agatha Christie.
Discover Dartmoor
We explore Dartmoor, an atmospheric National Park of tors and bogs, with wild ponies roaming free. We visit attractive Widdecombe-on-the-Moor, of ‘Uncle Tom Cobley’ fame, which has a large church, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Moor’. Later we cross the moor via Moretonhampstead, Postbridge and Princetown.
Plymouth
We visit the city of Plymouth, known for its maritime heritage and historic Barbican district with narrow, cobbled streets, independent shops, galleries, bars, cafes and a marina full of boats. There are harbour trips to see the lighthouses and even warships, if they are in port.
Riviera resorts
We enjoy a morning visit to the fishing harbour of Brixham, where you can browse the unique gift and craft shops, enjoy some seafood in the restaurants or just relax and take in the views at the harbour cafes. And do not forget to visit the famous replica of Sir Francis Drake’s iconic ship The Golden Hind, which has been docked in Brixham for over 50 years. Later the coach will take you to Paignton. Enjoy the beautiful sandy beach or a relaxing walk along the promenade or pier, otherwise browse the many shops in the town.
Days at leisure
Torquay is full of surprises with its magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay, swaying palm trees, elegant Victorian villas, pretty marina, sweeping sandy beach and its fascinating Agatha Christie connections. The Victorians coined the term English Riviera, by then well established as a fashionable holiday destination and the very first promotional guide was launched over 100 years ago! On one of the days, the coach will set down at the marina. On another, clients can enjoy the hotels’ facilities, or maybe take a stroll to Meadfoot Beach.
